In 2022 we commemorate the 175th anniversary of the establishment of formal relations between Germany and Guatemala.

Although our historical and cultural ties span a longer period of time, the establishment of these ties was formalized in 1847 with the signing of the first official trade, friendship and navigation agreement between the newly formed Republic of Guatemala and the Hanseatic cities of Hamburg. , Bremen. and Lubeck.

As part of this celebration, world-class Guatemalan companies, through the Embassy of Guatemala in Germany, invite you to learn more about some of their export products. Likewise, you will find information on the advantages that Guatemala offers as an investment destination, among which its strategic location in relation to the United States market stands out, as well as a gateway to it through the Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and the “near shoring” strategy.

Guatemala is one of the expert countries in quality distillates and many of its rums are considered one of the best in the world. “Botrán 18 Años” is, without a doubt, the jewel of the house: it comes from virgin cane sugar molasses harvested at the Tululá mill, in southern Guatemala, and is distilled and aged using a system inspired by the solera method, in the town of Quetzaltenango, at 2,300 meters above sea level, using barrels that previously housed bourbon, oloroso de Jerez and port. The result is a complex, elegant, full and deep rum, which combines the natural character of the distillate from the volcanic lands of Guatemala with the richness provided by the nuances of patient and judicious aging.

The sustainability of a palm oil project begins with the implementation of economically profitable practices that guarantee future investment and allow progress on the path towards social and environmental sustainability.

In this sense, Guatemala focuses on improving the competitiveness of palm oil investments in the country through outstanding performance and commitment to good agricultural practices, services and technology transfer. A key consideration in achieving sustainable agricultural production is to produce more with less. GREPALMA guides the development of the palm agribusiness to standardize good cultivation practices; We understand the growing global demand for palm oil produced with socially and environmentally responsible practices. This has encouraged the palm sector to ensure the development of the crop in a scenario of productive improvement, in the understanding that conservation means both development and environmental protection.

The evidence of the high productive efficiency and the implementation of good practices in the oil palm agroindustry is found in the study Estimation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) in the Production of Palm Oil in Guatemala, carried out with the support USAIS Low Emissions Development Project technician. The study determined that emissions associated with oil production in Guatemala represent 0.45% of total national emissions, less tan in other palm oil producing countries.
